Dancing in the Rain

Dancing in the Rain“Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass...It's about learning to dance in the rain.”

~ Vivian Greene

How do I start this post? I don’t want it to sound like a platitude…you know…”accept what is and move on,” or “live in the present moment,” or “life is all about the journey,” but these are exactly what this post is about.

This post is about our attitude. It is about our perspective. There is a reason that the “platitudes” listed above exist. It is because they are sound and sage advice. It is because these are words we can use to guide our life and to enrich our experience.

It is my belief that there is no good and bad in the world. Everything just is. What makes things good and bad is merely our limited perspective. We judge everything in our lives from this limited perspective, and a lot of this judgement comes from our preferences and out tendencies.

Having said that, even our judgement of something as bad does not mean that we have to be upset about it. It doesn’t mean that we must war or protest against it. We can always look at the positive side of things. We can decide to enjoy life as it comes…even the parts that we deem as not preferable or bad. We can decide to celebrate the fact that we have this “bad” thing in our life, which will prompt us to take action to change it…that’s a positive thing, right? After all, our actions to correct the “bad” situation will make, from our limited perspective, the world a better place.

There is always something to celebrate. There is always something new to move us along in our journey through this life. There is always a silver lining.

We have the choice of whether to see life as an amazing adventure, or as something to be suffered through (or any point along the continuum between these extremes.) There is really nothing we can do to change the situation as it is right now…not at this exact moment…but there is always a choice in how we decide to view the situation.

I encourage you to make the choice to enjoy life to the fullest…the “good” and the “bad.” Learn to make the best you can of each situation or circumstance. Learn to look past the negative, and practice dancing in the rain. Be appreciative of your life and all that it encompasses. Be passionate about living…truly living, rather than merely existing. Approach life with the “bring it on” attitude…enjoy whatever life brings.

Can you find a way to view any situation from a positive viewpoint? Are you willing to suspend your judgements as much as you can and make a practice of enjoying the adventure as it unfolds for you? Leave a comment and let the community know what you think. We’re listening.
