We are often criticized by others. When our point of view differs from that of others, they tend to think that they are right and we are wrong. We are all individuals, with our individual opinions and preferences. We differ from each other to add some contrast to this world, and to help each other as we move along our journey. Without this difference, there would be no sense to humanity. There would be no purpose to our lives, and things would remain static…but we also don’t like when others differ too much from us, and so we tend to criticize.
But, our worst critics are usually ourselves. That’s right, we are far harder on ourselves than we are on others, and we are far harder on ourselves than others are on us. Why is that?
I think that we tend to be hard on ourselves because we have control of what we do…and because we have high expectations of ourselves…expectations that we sometimes fail to meet. We are often the only ones who are aware of our self-expectations, and we are often the only ones who know when we fail to meet those expectations.
Our self-expectations are usually far beyond what we would ever expect of others, and yet we expect to achieve our goals. Why? Do we perceive ourselves as superior to others? Not usually. However, we do have a perception of self as powerful and capable.
We see the end result we expect very clearly. There is no doubt in our mind what it looks like. We feel our own capabilities, and we can see the goal as achievable. With such a clear picture, we are often unable to accept that we cannot make it happen exactly that way – on our first try. We get frustrated with ourselves and we begin to tell ourselves that we are incapable…or stupid…or unworthy…or…well, you get the picture.
The truth is, we are powerful creators. The truth is, we care capable of doing absolutely anything. The truth is that we are impatient with ourselves…
We can make absolutely anything happen, but we must understand that sometimes (usually) we expect the desired results in a timeframe that is unreasonable. Yes, you can learn to do anything…but it is the experience of learning it we are after. The end result is rarely where the joy lies. It is the creation of that result that bring the excitement and enthusiasm to life. Your Dream is not your destination…it is merely the reason to undertake your journey.
Step back and take a look at yourself. You are exactly where you need to be to live the life you dream of. You are always in the perfect time and place for everything that is happening in your life. You are perfect – just the way you are.
You do not need to be more than you are…of course, you want to be more, which is what drives your life…but you need not be frustrated or discontent…for you are always perfect, in every moment of your life. Be accepting of where you are. Be accepting of who you are. Be accepting of how you are. Love yourself for your perfection…and move from there to the perfection of the next moment.
Resist the temptation of being hard on yourself. Stop being your own worst critic, and become you own best appreciator.
My wish for you is that you come to see, accept, and love the perfect you…you as you are in this moment. I wish you to accept your continued perfection.
Can you see yourself as perfect? Can you accept being just as you are, with all of your desires and beliefs? Can you accept that you will always be perfect? Leave a comment and let us know about your perfection. We’re listening.
