"We must let go of the life we have planned, so as to accept the one that is waiting for us."
~ Joseph Campbell
You know what you want. You might change what you want often, but you know what you want. You know what you desire your life to be. You understand your “What?”
If you stopped to think about it, you know why you want what you want. You know, or can discover, the underlying reasons for what you want. You understand your “Why?”
So, if you know what you want for your life, and you know why you want it, why aren’t you moving toward it, or why isn’t it moving toward you? This is one of the things that we, as humans, tend to have a difficulty with…and there is good reason for it.
Most of us feel overwhelmed by our dreams. We can see them, often very clearly, and we see how far away they seem. It looks impossible to get from where we are to where we want to be. The road looks long a difficult. We have no idea where to start. This is normal – why?
We tend to look at things from a point of view of knowing how to get from one point to another. We have been conditioned to make a plan, to develop a strategy, and then implement the plans or strategies. We have been trained to think that we must know “how?” before we can act.
Not only do we want to know how, but many of us are obsessed with being able to see every step of the way. We need to know exactly how to make things unfold to get us to where we want to go…otherwise, we feel there is no reason to even start. This, of course, is a very limiting way to look at things.
Here’s some great news! The “How?” is not your job! You are responsible for the what and the why, but the how does not have to be controlled by you. The how is the job of the Universe. And the Universe is a master of finding the most interesting, often unexpected “Hows.”
Your job is to put the dream out there. Dream small, or dream as big as you want…as big as you can…and the Universe will arrange the how. Allow the Universe to inspire you to the action that is perfect for you, at the perfect time. Rest assured that if you can dream something, then you are capable of having it.
When you are the one that decides on how something will come to you, you are selecting one path, one possible way to have it come to you. When you don’t worry about the how, but put your effort into gaining clarity on the what and the why, then you open up the doors for the Universe to find a way to bring you and your dream together. The Universe has a much broader perspective than you do, and it is able to arrange people, circumstances, and events to come into your life that will lead you to exactly what you want – often in much more wonderful ways than you can conceive of from your very limited perspective.
Let go of the hows. They are not your concern. Concentrate on your what and your why. Let go and allow the Universe to inspire you to the path that will take you exactly where you want to go. And since you are relaxing into the path, take some time to enjoy the journey.
Are you willing to let go of the “hows” of your dreams and desires? Are you willing to allow inspiration to come to you and lead you to what you want? Leave a comment and let us know if you do this, or if you plan to give it a try. We’re listening.
